ănthology
overview
ănthology is a publication design project centered around a collection of articles exploring Vietnamese food culture, particularly through the lens of immigrant chefs and the global Viet food scene.
The magazine celebrates how chefs and restaurant owners weave their heritage, childhood memories, and cultural identity into their culinary creations abroad, fostering awareness and appreciation for Vietnamese culture. ănthology highlights the enduring connection between food and identity, illustrating how one’s roots remain a constant, no matter where life takes them.

approach
“ăn” in Vietnamese means to eat, dine, feast, or consume, a tribute to the project’s focus on food as a bridge between cultures.
I began by researching articles that explored cultural identity and food, specifically focusing on interviews where chefs and restaurant owners reflected on their childhood and heritage. These narratives became the foundation of the publication.
To bring the stories to life, I created hand-drawn illustrations inspired by the dishes mentioned in the articles, many were also dishes I grew up eating. This personal connection infused the visuals with authenticity and emotional depth, bridging the gap between memory, culture, and design.
