overview

This project was completed as part of the Experience Design course at Columbia College Chicago in the Fall 2024 semester.

Our team of 4 was tasked with identifying an issue or underserved community within the Chicago area and designing a solution. Over the course of 15 weeks, we collaborated to research, ideate, and prototype an interface to address the issue.

We developed a mobile app that enables users to order groceries for delivery from local food shelters or find alternatives at nearby grocery stores. The app prioritizes payment options such as SNAP/EBT, then sort listing with the most cost-effective or convenience based on user needs, such as location.

approach

After researching into areas where people have limited access to affordable, nutritious food, we shifted our focus to supporting food shelters, helping them reach more people and aiding people with the right support. Our goal was a digital solution that closes the gap between food shelters and people in need, making fresh and healthy food more accessible.

The app features an AI chatbot that guides users through the SNAP/EBT application process, helps build personalized recipes, and provides support in form of a conversation. This aims to expand access to fresh, nutritious food and resources without the process being overwhelming.
