flatland
overview
Redesign of the novel Flatland - A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott, published in 1884.
Inspired by contemporary book designs, posters, and layouts, I aimed to create a visually engaging experience that reflects the surrealism, randomness, and oddity of the story.

approach
To emphasize the story’s weirdness, I used simplified illustrations created from basic shapes and lines while ensuring each spread had a distinct layout and adhering to a consistent grid system.
In the first part of the novel, fun text layout were additions to the illustrations to add little surprises to the story. But in the second part, where the author left out most of the visuals, I played with the text layout, making it somewhat challenging to read to match the chaotic vibe of the story.
